A new life for a heritage cottage
AIA Commendation for Residential Architecture- Alterations and Additions 2019
This little local heritage-listed cottage is joining the urban revival currently underway in the north-west corner of Adelaide. Taking advantage of its proximity to the ultra contemporary medical precinct on North Terrace, the brick and stone frontage has been brought up-to-date and softened with the addition of an enormous corten planter and lots of greenery.
Internally the traditional cellular rooms have been opened up to flow and to let in lots of light. Large new openings provide views out and oversized doors disappear into the wall for direct access to outside. A small internal courtyard brings glimpses of the sky, abundant light and greenery inside.
A simple colour palette of black and white is softened with small accents of pastel pink and amber, fun multicoloured hexagonal floor tiling and gorgeous hand-blown glass pendant light fittings.
